Server Assistant

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Aid servers during meal periods.
  • Greet guests warmly, using their names when possible.
  • Familiarize oneself with all Meeting at Market menu items, ingredients, specials, beverages, etc.
  • Stock side stands with needed supplies.
  • Polish silverware and glassware.
  • Pick up and return clean linen.
  • Buss and set tables.
  • Refill pitchers and guests' glasses as needed.
  • Maintain consistency and efficiency in service to all guests.
  • Anticipate and respond promptly to guests' needs.
  • Be knowledgeable about hotel features, services, and hours of operation.
  • Practice and adhere to emergency procedures.
  • Act as an ambassador of the hotel and company.
  • Maintain department standards in image, appearance, and grooming.
  • Comply with policies of Orient-Express Hotels, Charleston Place Hotel, and its Hotel Human Resources Department.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of guest and hotel information.
  • Assist in other areas as needed.

  • Communicate effectively in English with guests, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and courteous service to guests.
  • Access, input, and retrieve information on the computer system.
  • Memorize menus.
  • Handle stress and resolve conflicts.
  • Work under pressure, be organized, self-motivated, and work well with others.
  • Have a strong positive attitude and initiate light conversations with guests.
  • Know hotel property and operating hours of each guest service area.
  • Have basic knowledge of Charleston and surrounding areas.
  • Communicate legibly.
  • Complete work accurately and on time.
  • Work effectively and relate well with senior management, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift equipment, supplies, etc. of at least 30 pounds. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Extended periods of standing are required, especially during peak hotel hours or events. Clear vision and good hearing are necessary for effective communication.
