Serology Lab Aide (Overnight Shift)

About the role

The Serology Lab Aide is responsible for the collection and preparation of samples to be tested.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function.

• Collect and build samples to a load
• Centrifuge samples and make aliquots for sample testing as required
• Find missing specimens
• Print and reconcile queue list
• Library all samples
• Maintain all departmental equipment
• Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
• Awareness of quality control and calibration
• Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
• Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures
• Maintains clean and organized work area
• Restocks supplies as needed
• Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
• Consult with senior peers on non-complex Serology tasks to learn through experience
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required, 2- or 4-year degree in science-related field preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

Working Conditions: Stationary position requiring up to 2 hours of stationary work; constant computer and lab equipment use; occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching; lifting up to 50 lbs; close-range detail observation; possible extended hours; laboratory environment with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory PPE; exposure to zoonotic disease agents and hazardous chemicals per National Hazard Communication Standards.

Skills

• Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments
• General science background, including hematology/chemistry
• Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Solid communication skills- written and verbal
• Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written direction
• Positive, can-do attitude
• Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office

Pay

The Target Pay for this position is $15.96 an hour. Pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Schedule

Work Shift: 1am-9:30am Tuesday - Saturday with alternating Sundays.
