The Wentworth Institute of Technology Police Department is seeking a Sergeant to support and emulate the mission, core values, and goals of Wentworth by providing a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Support and emulate the mission, core values, and goals of Wentworth by providing a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Support the Wentworth community by:
- Fulfilling the functions of their job, including investigating issues and crimes that lead to identification, apprehension, and prosecution of offenders.
- Ensuring the safety of the Wentworth community in an orderly, efficient, and professional manner.
- Responding and taking charge in emergency situations and issuing emergency alerts to the Wentworth community.
- Distributing assignments and reviewing work performed.
- Overseeing emergency alert, radio, alarm, access control, phone, and fire protection systems.
- Conducting and supervising investigations, maintaining records, and approving reports and shift paperwork.
- Enforce criminal laws, policies, rules, and regulations in a fair and consistent manner.
- Patrol buildings and grounds to protect life and property and deter crime.
- Respond to emergency situations such as alarms and accidents.
- Investigate criminal complaints and policy violations.
- Take appropriate action on observed violations of university rules.
- Direct accident and disaster response, render aid, and restore order.
- Aid other law enforcement agencies.
- Operate vehicles, firearms, radios, and related equipment.
- Manage parking operations during shift.
- Cover special events and VIP visits, including commencement and large campus events.
- Coordinate with local, state, and transit police.
- Participate in crime prevention and public safety training.
- Collaborate with university departments, students, faculty, and staff.
- Provide testimony in court and serve as a witness in disciplinary proceedings as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience at the rank of police officer or above.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Massachusetts POST certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts license to carry a firearm.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check (criminal, driving, medical, psychological, and drug screening).
- Valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Massachusetts POST certification.
- Graduate of a Full-Time MPTC or Massachusetts State Police Academy (or equivalent).
- MPTC Instructor certification (CPR, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, etc.).
- Field Training Officer experience.
Skills
- Ability to enforce laws, policies, and regulations fairly and consistently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate various law enforcement equipment.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay
The expected hourly rate for this position is between $36.41 - $50.77 USD Hourly.
Schedule
The job grade for this position is Grade 7N.
