This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel Program. Relocation assistance may be available. A DoD Secret clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years (5 years for Principal level) is required to start. Travel is expected at 10% of the time.
About the role
The Sentinel Infrastructure Analysis Team oversees the design and analysis of facilities and related subsystems that support the future upgrade to the Minuteman III missile, as well as unique flight test facilities. As part of this team, your technical expertise and analytical prowess will play a vital role in thermal analysis, including Transient Heat Transfer Simulations and Active Cooling Analysis. This role invites a forward-thinking professional eager to tackle complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions that advance thermodynamics for the Sentinel Program.
Responsibilities
- Perform thermal analysis, including Transient Heat Transfer Simulations and Active Cooling Analysis.
- Collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment.
- Utilize finite element method or finite difference method thermal analysis software (e.g., Thermal Desktop, Ansys).
- Apply professional knowledge of structures, statics, strength of materials, and structural dynamics principles.
- Program and use MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance (investigation date within 6 years for T02, 5 years for T03).
- Professional knowledge of heat transfer methods and principles, as well as aerospace thermal analysis.
- Experience with finite element or finite difference method thermal analysis software (e.g., Thermal Desktop, Ansys).
- Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation.
Qualifications
Thermodynamics Engineer (T02)
- 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 1 year with a Master’s.
Principal Thermodynamics Engineer (T03)
- 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 3 years with a Master’s; 1 year with a PhD.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional knowledge of missile and/or spacecraft structures, statics, strength of materials, and structural dynamics principles.
- Ablation/thermochemical erosion modeling experience.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
- Experience working on strategic or tactical missile programs or spacecraft.
- Experience with high-performance computing and management of large datasets.
- Experience with Thermal Desktop, Integrated System Level Thermal Models, and/or Component/Unit Level Thermal Models.
- Experience correlating thermal models to test data.
- Experience using HERO (Heat Transfer and Erosion Analysis Program).

Pay
- Thermodynamics Engineer (T02): $77,200.00 – $115,800.00
- Principal Thermodynamics Engineer (T03): $95,300.00 – $142,900.00
The above salary ranges represent general guidelines. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
Schedule
This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
