About the Role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff (level 6) Systems Engineer to join the Sentinel Systems Engineering team in Roy, UT. This role supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

As a Level 6 Systems Engineer, you will provide leadership and technical oversight to a team of SMT Tech Leads, each supporting a Tier I or Tier II supplier. You will act as the primary focal point for program design changes, processes, and templates impacting suppliers, collaborating across Program Operating Units, the Office of the Chief Engineer, Engineering, Mission Assurance, Global Supply Chain, and other functional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive collaboration and communication across all Tier I & Tier II SMT Tech Leads.
  • Identify technical best practices across the SMTs and establish CONOPS and templates for implementation.
  • Partner with program and technical leadership to align supplier technical objectives within program cost and schedule constraints.
  • Act as the SMT focal point for early-phase development of changes, ensuring design solutions account for potential supplier impacts early to minimize cost and schedule disruptions.
  • Serve as the primary technical focal point for managing change and change board activities, including acting as the SMT Technical Review Board (TRB) delegate.
  • Review proposed design changes to determine potential supplier impact, collaborating with SMTLs and SMT Tech Leads for supplier-specific assessments.
  • Analyze proposed changes to balance technical needs with supplier cost and schedule, recommending alternatives that address program needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW) templates and provide technical guidance for tailoring SSOWs.
  • Provide surge support as an experienced SMT Tech Lead and technical support for major program requirements changes and proposals.
  • Offer overarching SMT process guidance on supplier Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Variance (RFVs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
  • Provide independent assessments to support supplier proposal technical evaluations as needed.
  • Support PDP ingestion activities, including estimating and integration.
  • Identify technical risks and opportunities impacting the SMT, providing risk mitigation and capture plans.
  • Identify bottlenecks and process improvement opportunities within the SMT portion of the subcontractor deliverables (SDRL) approval process.
  • Provide independent guidance on approval criteria for SMT-owned technical SDRLs.
  • Drive commonality in methodology and metrics used to track technical goals and commitments for suppliers.
  • Identify SMT Tech Lead training and knowledge gaps, partnering with functional homerooms to define curriculum and bridge gaps.
  • Mentor junior SMT Tech Leads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and 14 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 10 years of related engineering experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading technical teams or organizations to achieve common goals, with a focus on mentorship.
  • Experience with the systems engineering “V” and different phases of the acquisition lifecycle, including requirements development to acceptance testing.
  • Experience managing a technical baseline and working with systems engineering milestones.
  • Experience working with suppliers on a Development program.
  • Experience with technology related to major Tier I suppliers, such as aerospace electronic/mechanical systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoW Secret security clearance at time of application, with an investigation completed within the last 6 years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval and a U.S. Government DoW Top Secret clearance within a reasonable period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience defining, documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing, and confirming requirements throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Experience applying a technical performance baseline to monitor and compare key program technical performance measures.
  • Experience defining, establishing, communicating, monitoring, and controlling scope to ensure only required work is performed.
  • Experience evaluating supplier proposals and participating in contract negotiations.
  • Experience addressing program uncertainty through risk and opportunity management.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) or as a Control Account Manager (CAM).
  • Experience planning and executing a project quality management system emphasizing prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Experience identifying, orchestrating, and controlling management activities to integrate program interdependencies.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Pay

Primary level salary range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00. The final offer considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differentials, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
