About the Role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Structural/Principal Structural Engineer to support the Sentinel program in Roy, Utah. The Sentinel Infrastructure Analysis Team oversees the design and analysis of facilities and related subsystems for the future upgrade to the Minuteman III missile, as well as unique flight test facilities. This role focuses on structural engineering and analysis, including thermal analysis, bolted joint analysis, and welded joint analysis.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic, or composite structural materials for product design or operation.
• Perform structural engineering tasks including structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronics, power plant, armament, heating, ventilating, equipment, and maintenance designs.
• Analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, and structural modeling.
• Specialize in structural engineering areas such as dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue, and thermal analysis.
• Utilize tools such as Siemens NX, ANSYS, FEMAP, and other software applications for analysis.
• Collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment.
• Run modal transient analysis in Nastran (or equivalent) and perform vibroacoustic, time domain, frequency domain, and/or random vibration analysis.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Active DoD Secret clearance with investigation date within 5 years.
• Professional knowledge of structures, statics, strength of materials, and structural dynamics principles and methods.
• Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation.
• Experience with vibroacoustic analysis.

Qualifications

Structural Engineer (T02)

• 2 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 1 year with a Master’s.
• Experience running modal transient analysis in Nastran (or equivalent).
• Experience with time domain, frequency domain, and/or random vibration analysis.

Principal Structural Engineer (T03)

• 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 3 years with a Master’s; 1 year with a PhD.
• Experience running modal transient analysis in Nastran (or equivalent).
• Experience with time domain, frequency domain, and/or random vibration analysis.

Skills

• Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
• Knowledge and/or experience with structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles.
• Proficiency with ABAQUS, FEMAP, ANSYS, and LS-Dyna.
• Exposure to structural test applications and seismic analysis (ASCE 7).
• Experience with missiles program requirements.
• Ability to navigate through NX 3D models and CPLM, including TeamCenter CPLM experience.
• Experience with vibroacoustic tools and/or SEA tools such as Wave6 or VA One.
• Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, and rocket engine vibroacoustic analysis.

Pay

• Structural Engineer (T02): $77,200.00 - $115,800.00.
• Principal Structural Engineer (T03): $95,300.00 - $142,900.00.

Base salary offers consider scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

Standard work schedule is a 9/80, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
