About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer (level 5) to join its team in Roy, Utah, supporting the Sentinel program. This role contributes to the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

The successful candidate will join the Sentinel Systems Engineering, Integration, & Test (SEIT) team as a member of the Software & System Integration (SSI) Weapon System Integration (WSI) team. This multi-tiered, multi-disciplined team assesses design compatibilities across the Weapon System (WS) Segment teams, serving as objective integrators to ensure requirement definition influences design decisions and lifecycle capability effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering processes and analyses in specific product team designs to prove successful design integration and identify potential gaps at a high level.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and foundational systems engineering skills to drive process and technical gap resolution of interface and requirement design solutions, ensuring program and contract objectives are met.
  • Foster engagement across diverse teams, including mentoring and coaching, and ensure coordination between SEIT and other integration teams.
  • Participate in technical planning, verification and validation development, cost and risk considerations, and requirements analyses for program integrated systems.
  • Lead large groups of engineers, provide technical support, brief program leadership, and drive program execution.
  • Create, update, and maintain requirements specifications in Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).
  • Develop interface products such as Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), Interface Design Description (IDD), and Interface Control Document (ICD).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 12 years of experience (10 years with a Master’s degree, 8 years with a PhD).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance (investigation within the last 6 years) and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Must successfully pass enhanced security clearance screening as determined by the company.
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and/or Risk Management.
  • 4+ years of experience on large-scale or complex aerospace/defense system development across multiple lifecycle phases: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification, sell-off, and transition to production.
  • 3+ years of experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities, including leading engineers, providing technical support, briefing leadership, and driving program execution.
  • 3+ years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS.
  • 2+ years of direct development experience with interface products (IRS, IDD, ICD) and requirement specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Continuous process improvement experience.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • 4+ years of ICBM experience (MMIII or Sentinel).
  • Experience executing and boarding Risks, Issues, and Opportunities.
  • Teamcenter/Common Product Lifecycle Management (CPLM) experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership principles: integrity, respect, and organizational communication.
  • Experience creating, updating, and maintaining Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) products.
  • Experience working with external customers to meet program expectations efficiently.
  • Proficiency in developing key systems engineering artifacts, such as requirement specifications and interface definition documents.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering program milestone events (e.g., Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and/or Critical Design Review (CDR)).
  • Experience reviewing engineering specifications, schematics, and/or drawings, with the ability to translate customer-driven requirements into specifications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience with high-value customer presentations and managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (e.g., engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software).

Pay

Primary salary range: $152,900.00 – $229,300.00. The final offer considers scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long-Term Incentives.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
