About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (level 3) to join its team in Roy, UT, supporting the Sentinel program. This role involves supporting the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

Relocation assistance may be available. This position requires an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application and the ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Decompose parent-level requirements into lower-level requirements based on service life, use case, and CONOPS.
  • “Own” the environments for equipment; add derived environmental figures/tables to the appropriate Environmental Criteria Document when analyses are performed.
  • Review internal and external vendor performance specifications and verification methodology.
  • Support internal and external (vendor) Design Reviews.
  • Support System Test engineers in developing test procedures to ensure correct requirements interpretation and verification.
  • Review COTS to ensure meeting environmental requirements; identify deficiencies and recommend delta qual testing to verify compliance.
  • Participate in Test Plan, Procedure, and Report peer reviews.
  • Witness testing as the Cognizant Environments Engineer.
  • Review Workmanship or Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) procedures; approve vibration and thermal cycle surveys.
  • Support MRB/FRB during testing and screening events.
  • Develop and review requirements, verification methods, descriptions, plans, and architecture.
  • Participate in the investigation of early issues and findings to understand if requirements are impacted and support criticality adjudication.
  • Coordinate with REs and System Test to ensure integrated functions are ready for formal verification by the test team.
  • Interface with vendors and customers.

Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 3 years with a Master’s; or 1 year with a PhD.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance (current and within scope, < 6 years) at the time of application, with the ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 (Natural and Induced Environmental Test Methodology and tailoring), MIL-HDBK-344, MIL-HDBK-310, SMC-S-016, RCC 319, and DOORS v7.X.
  • Familiarity with commercial and industrial test methods (IEC 60068, RTCA DO-160, ASTM, SAE, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Department of Defense Top Secret clearance (or the ability to obtain it) with SAP approval capability.
  • Experience with laboratory testing: climatic, vibration, mechanical/pyroshock testing; understanding underlying principles, sensor placements, and their importance.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Pay

Primary salary range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00. The final offer considers the scope and responsibilities of the position, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
