About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Roy, UT, supporting the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. This role focuses on the design, development, production, and deployment of launch equipment hardware and systems for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with users, customers, and fellow engineers in a dynamic environment to deliver high-performance mechanical solutions for the Sentinel program.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) on a major defense program.
• Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles, and associated ground and test equipment.
• Develop CAD models and 3D model-based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center.
• Verify specifications and designs through modeling, simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis.
• Support all phases of the systems lifecycle, including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Perform design of components/systems and preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures.
• Prepare and present reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications), and interface with customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• Mechanical Engineer (Level 2): 2 years of relevant experience.
• Principal Mechanical Engineer (Level 3): 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.).
• Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process.
• Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards.
• Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles.
• Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems.
• Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred).
• Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira, and Confluence.
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and adapt to changing direction.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical content.

Pay

• Mechanical Engineer (Level 2): $75,800 – $113,800 per year.
• Principal Mechanical Engineer (Level 3): $94,200 – $141,200 per year.

The salary range represents a general guideline. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
