About the role
This position will be located at Roy, UT to support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. The applicant will be responsible for the design, development, production, and deployment of launch equipment hardware and systems for each weapons system facility.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
- Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
- Create CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
- Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
- Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
- Design of components/systems, and preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures
- Prepare and present reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers
Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 1 year of related experience (Principal level requires 5 years with a bachelor's; or 3 years with a master's)
- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Requires a minimum 2 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
- Requires a minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
- Requires experience with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)
- Requires experience with GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
Qualifications
- Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process
- Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
- Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
- Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems
- Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred)
- Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices
