About the role
We are looking for a reporter to deliver daily news and a steady flow of features that put the news in context for our readers. This beat focuses on the pharmaceutical industry, from major global drugmakers to smaller specialty companies, including:
- The medicines they develop and launch
- Clinical and regulatory milestones that shape their pipelines
- Quarterly earnings and financial performance
- Manufacturing operations
- Business strategies, deals, and competitive pressures driving the industry
The ideal candidate excels at building sources, breaking news, and digging into the why and how behind daily stories. Our readers are savvy and well-informed, relying on us for perspectives and insights they cannot get elsewhere. This role requires strong news judgment, a commitment to accuracy and editorial integrity, and a genuine curiosity about the industry. You should be comfortable taking ownership of major stories, digging deep when needed, and bringing creativity and personality to your work.
Responsibilities
- Write daily news stories and longer-form articles covering the pharmaceutical industry
- Develop the beat and cultivate sources at pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, manufacturing organizations, industry experts, and analysts
- Research government databases, court documents, securities filings, and other public sources for untold stories
- Brainstorm and develop engaging features that provide deeper context and insight for Fierce Pharma’s readers
- Contribute to podcasts and other multimedia projects
- Attend key medical meetings and industry conferences
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a newsroom, preferably covering the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related writing-intensive field
- Strong writing skills and proficiency in AP style
- A competitive spirit and drive to break news and scoop the competition
- Positive attitude, "Fierce" work ethic, and enthusiasm for being part of a collaborative team of journalists

Pay
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $70K to $80K. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and market, geographic, and organizational factors.
