Senior WordPress Full-Stack Developer

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, customize, and maintain enterprise-level WordPress applications, including custom themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, reusable components, and business functionality.
  • Develop responsive, accessible, and cross-browser compatible web applications using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), SQL, MySQL, REST APIs, JSON, and modern front-end technologies.
  • Build and maintain integrations between WordPress and enterprise applications, including CRM systems, admissions platforms, event management solutions, email marketing platforms, analytics tools, and third-party APIs.
  • Perform WordPress core, theme, and plugin upgrades, troubleshoot production issues, manage development and deployment environments, and provide ongoing technical support while maintaining platform stability.
  • Optimize website performance through caching strategies, database tuning, Core Web Vitals improvements, image optimization, code refactoring, and application monitoring.
  • Implement secure coding practices, website hardening, vulnerability remediation, patch management, malware prevention, backup and disaster recovery procedures, and support incident response activities.
  • Develop and maintain accessible web components compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, perform accessibility testing and remediation, and collaborate with accessibility stakeholders to ensure inclusive digital experiences.
  • Participate in solution architecture, technical design, code reviews, effort estimation, technology evaluation, and mentor development team members on WordPress best practices.
  • Prepare technical documentation, deployment procedures, release notes, operational guides, and collaborate with project managers, UX/UI designers, QA engineers, infrastructure teams, and client stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience developing, customizing, and supporting enterprise WordPress applications.
  • Strong expertise in WordPress architecture, custom theme development, plugin development, Gutenberg blocks, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), WordPress hooks and filters, template hierarchy, and REST API development.
  • Proficiency with PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), SQL, MySQL, Git, responsive web development, Bootstrap, AJAX, jQuery, CSS Grid, and Flexbox.
  • Experience managing enterprise WordPress environments, release management, Git-based version control, staging and production deployments, CI/CD concepts, and hosting platforms such as Pantheon (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing website performance, implementing Core Web Vitals improvements, caching strategies, Redis, database optimization, image optimization, and code refactoring.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development, website hardening, vulnerability assessment, patch management, malware prevention, and enterprise security best practices.
  • Experience developing accessible websites compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA, ARIA standards, accessibility testing, and remediation.
  • Experience integrating WordPress with enterprise platforms such as Slate CRM (or similar admissions CRM), Localist (or comparable event management platforms), Mailchimp (or similar email marketing platforms), Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and third-party REST APIs.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies and project management tools such as Jira, Asana, Airtable, and Google Workspace.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
