About the role
We are looking for a player coach – someone whose first instinct when a teammate is stuck is to pull up a chair. You will join as a Team Lead, not a senior developer who might grow into one. Our development team is expanding this year, so this is a genuine leadership role from week one. Approximately seventy percent of the work is hands‑on engineering in C# and .NET, with thirty percent devoted to leadership. A team of this size does not require a full‑time manager; the balance shifts toward leadership as we grow.
Responsibilities
- Provide real accountability from day one for the engineers on your team.
- Give feedback, create development plans, and calibrate against the career framework; team growth is your primary measure of success.
- Conduct code reviews as coaching opportunities, focusing on teaching rather than gating.
- Own and improve the standards the team writes against.
- Drive estimation and capacity modeling that turns schedules into reliable forecasts.
- Lead modern content platform work, including Umbraco major version upgrades and back‑office extensions built with Lit and Web Components (moving away from the legacy AngularJS backoffice).
- Handle front‑end and integration craft: TypeScript, responsive design, WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility, and integration reliability.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of professional experience with C# and .NET (hard requirement).
- Proven experience leading engineers, formally or informally, and ability to name someone who improved under your guidance.
- Continue to write and ship production code and want to remain hands‑on.
- Have owned a delivery commitment to a date and experienced a slip, understanding the impact.
- Strong SQL Server, front‑end, and integration experience, plus comfort speaking with clients.
Qualifications
- Experience with Umbraco or a comparable .NET CMS.
- Design system work.
- Azure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Background in mid‑market product companies, software vendors, or agencies that have grown into products.
- Management training (will be funded if needed).
- Enjoys mentoring, wants the title and accountability now, has opinions on estimation, review, and definition of done, and wants to shape how the team works.
- Opportunity to grow into a dedicated management role as the team expands; coached by two directors with over forty‑five years of combined consulting and Fortune 500 experience.
Skills
- C# and .
