Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer

Merrick is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our growing Water Group in Colorado and Texas. This role focuses on innovative water, wastewater, and reuse systems that serve communities and protect vital resources. Local or regional candidates are preferred, with a hybrid schedule. Remote candidates will be considered if willing to travel to client sites and local offices twice per month.

Responsibilities

• Perform analysis and design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including advanced treatment and nutrient removal processes using BioWin process modeling software.
• Design water and sewer pipelines, pump stations, and related infrastructure.
• Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, and work products.
• Provide construction support and oversight, including administration, limited inspection, and start-up/operations support for treatment plants.
• Review designs by others for conformance to design standards and support municipal water utility operations and maintenance teams.
• Perform independent design tasks, review designs, prepare bid documents (drawings and specifications), and organize project deliverables with limited supervision.
• Direct and manage a team of design engineers and/or technicians on water and wastewater projects.
• Apply Merrick procedures and make sound engineering decisions with initiative and judgment.
• Interface effectively with clients and government agencies (local, state, and federal) using strong interpersonal skills.
• Lead project progress meetings, deliver presentations, and provide clear written communications.
• May involve project management responsibilities.
• Some travel may be required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
• Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in the design and construction oversight of water and/or wastewater infrastructure facilities and projects.
• Experience working on wastewater projects.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Colorado and/or Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree with a focus on treatment processes.
• Experience with:
  • Water/sewer modeling
  • BioWin modeling
  • Advanced treatment/nutrient removal
  • GIS systems
  • Public works experience with local, state, or federal agencies
• Local candidates preferred; relocation available. Remote candidates considered.
