Senior Water Resources Hydrogeologist/Engineer

About the role

This position reports to the Practice Area Director and involves business development, project management, and technical oversight of water resources projects across Texas, Colorado, California, and other states. Responsibilities span from initial project planning through feasibility analyses, design, implementation, and completion. Projects may include aquifer characterization, water budgets, groundwater-flow modeling, water supply planning, production well design, water transfer support, potable reuse planning, and litigation support.

Responsibilities

• Apply expertise as a technical resource in the water resources practice area, including:
  • Hydrogeologic conceptual models, water balances, numerical model development, and groundwater availability
  • Water supply assessments and planning studies
  • Water supply strategies, integrated plans, water transfers, and conservation programs
  • Groundwater well design, construction, and testing
• Develop project strategies and lead technical staff to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion
• Build, maintain, and grow client relationships as a trusted advisor in the water resources sector
• Cultivate professional relationships across technical and business areas of interest
• Lead business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and developing scopes of work and fee estimates
• Manage projects from initiation through completion, including budget tracking, scheduling, invoicing, and subconsultant coordination
• Provide quality assurance/quality control and technical review of project deliverables
• Mentor and support junior and mid-level staff in technical, project management, and business development skills; may include supervising and growing a team in Texas
• Assist in developing performance goals for team members
• Perform other duties as required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a hydrogeologist or engineer for water resources projects
• Demonstrated experience in business development, including client relationship management, proposal preparation, and contract execution
• Proven project management experience, including budget management, scheduling, and responsive client communication
• Excellent client management skills with a track record of maintaining and growing long-term client relationships
• Active Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure in Texas through reciprocity

Skills

• Technical knowledge in numerical groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW), water resources planning, groundwater availability investigations, data management, ArcGIS, and technical writing
• Familiarity with Texas groundwater regulations, water data sources, groundwater availability models, and regional water planning processes
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including coordination with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and the public
• Ability to multi-task, stay organized, work independently, and collaborate with project teams
• Strong time management, work ethic, and attention to detail

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workloads and frequent short deadlines
• Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs
• Ability to remain stationary for prolonged periods, often standing or sitting
• Effective communication and information exchange in person, on calls, and in virtual meetings

Location

This position is ideally based in Houston, Texas or Austin, Texas. Candidates based elsewhere in Texas or in other locations may be considered.

Travel Requirements

• Occasional travel, possibly overnight, for client meetings and site visits (up to 25% of the time)
• Must have a current valid driver’s license
