Senior Water Resources Engineer

About the role

GEI’s Water Resources practice is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our Akron, Ohio office. The candidate will be part of a connected team of GEI H&H professionals across the country and will contribute to planning and implementation of water resource projects in a variety of natural and urban settings.

Responsibilities

• Execute technical projects and assignments in coordination with project managers and support staff. Example projects include dam removals, river restoration, dam rehabilitation, flood control, stormwater management planning and design.
• Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients.
• Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents, and project schedules.
• Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
• Independently research, determine, and calculate answers that lead to independent decisions on various work/client-related issues. While not expected to act as the Engineer of Record, the candidate will interact with and report to engineers who do.
• Apply experience with H/H modeling, stormwater BMP, and river restoration planning, design, and monitoring.
• Provide construction oversight/field engineering with a focus on stormwater management and soil erosion controls (desirable).

Skills

• Computer modeling: Experience with USEPA SWMM and HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D versions); other similar software experience may be sufficient.
• GIS: Working knowledge of GIS tools, including spatial analysis and the ability to create, analyze, and convert topographic and bathymetric surfaces within and export out of GIS.
• CAD: Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, with some ability to analyze/convert surfaces, particularly to support H/H modeling program demands.

Requirements

• 1–5 years of professional experience demonstrating the skills mentioned above.
• B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or a Water Resources–related field; M.S. considered a plus.
• Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain registration within three (3) years.
• Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to travel as needed for work assignments.
