Senior Video Journalist
We’re looking for an experienced and highly creative Senior Video Journalist to join The Wall Street Journal’s video team in New York. WSJ Video blends deep reporting with an array of formats: investigations, short and long-form field pieces, fast-paced quick-turn news content, video podcasts, social content, and series. We are constantly innovating how we tell stories.
Responsibilities
- Pitch, develop, research, and report for a variety of video formats, lengths, structures, and stories.
- Consistently generate new ideas and pitches for all WSJ video platform needs.
- Manage pre-production, including booking and logistics.
- Oversee multiple projects in various stages of production on tight deadlines.
- Shoot and edit videos as needed.
- Ensure all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed.
- Collaborate with reporters and editors across the WSJ newsroom to produce videos.
- Handle breaking news assignments and other additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience producing video pieces in a news environment at a national or global media company, both in the field and in studio.
- Prior experience with every aspect of video production from start to finish, under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional scriptwriting skills.
- A deep understanding of and interest in The Journal’s core coverage areas: economy, markets, politics, and technology.
- Experience as a DP in the field and in-studio.
- Some prior mid- and long-form documentary and series experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
Pay
$125,000 – $145,000. This range reflects our good-faith estimate and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. For bonus-eligible roles, targets are determined based on multiple considerations, including market benchmarks and individual contributions.
