Senior Vice President of Accounting

The Collier Companies is seeking a Senior Vice President of Accounting for an on-site role in Gainesville, Florida. This position reports out of The Collier Companies Florida Home Office, which offers a temperate climate and numerous educational, cultural, and commercial opportunities.

About the role

This role leads the accounting function for a large multifamily portfolio of approximately 12,000 units. The Senior Vice President of Accounting oversees day-to-day accounting operations, ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, financial analysis, and manages the month-end close. They also supervise a team of accountants.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
• Prepare executive summaries and dashboards that communicate portfolio performance, liquidity, financial risks, trends, and recommended actions
• Review and approve community-level financial statements, GPR, and variance reports
• Analyze individual assets and portfolio performance creating financial forecasts using key metrics
• Ensure timely delivery of owner/partner packages
• Oversee bank reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and consolidations
• Solid knowledge of business models and principles
• Accounting Operations
• Oversee accounts payable, global cash management, and security deposit accounting
• Review and approve journal entries and complex adjustments
• Support community-level cash management, distribution, and funding requests
• Compliance, Audit & Systems
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of how accounting systems work and actively identify opportunities to improve processes through automation and AI tools or beneficial 3rd party products
• Ensure GAAP and owner-specific reporting compliance, effective internal controls procedures
• Cook external and owner audits
• Serve as a subject-matter expert for the Entrata accounting system
• Familiarity with partnership tax returns (Form 1065), K-1s, and capital account tracking
• Collaboration & Projects
• Partner with Community Managers, Regional Managers, and Asset Managers to improve ROI for Investors
• Aid in accounting and due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and development projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA (or actively pursuing)
• 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior supervisory experience
• Solid understanding of GAAP
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with property management ERP systems such as Entrata
