Senior Vice President, General Counsel
About the Role
The General Counsel oversees and directs legal support, advice, and counsel for the Minnesota Twins, LLC, a Major League Baseball organization, and its affiliated entities. This includes facility operations for both baseball and non-baseball events. The General Counsel serves as the chief legal officer, leading the in-house legal department (currently consisting of a Senior Counsel and an Associate Counsel) and providing guidance on governance, MLB compliance, stadium matters, sponsorship and media rights agreements, employment and labor issues, mergers and acquisitions, capital transactions, real estate, litigation, and lobbying efforts.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage all legal services for the Club and its affiliated entities.
- Provide legal support and advice to executive and leadership teams, including contract analysis, risk management, compliance, and strategic planning.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate legal documents such as facilities operation agreements, sponsorship agreements, suite license agreements, technology/software agreements, vendor/service agreements, concert/major event agreements, and employment/consulting agreements.
- Lead process improvements in contract drafting, intake, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Review and advise on corporate documents, MLB documents, facilities operating agreements, and major partner agreements.
- Interpret and provide guidance on MLB-related rules, regulations, and policies.
- Advise on corporate governance matters, including preparation for Advisory Board meetings.
- Collaborate with the technology department on enterprise-wide data privacy initiatives.
- Proactively identify and manage liability areas and legal exposures.
- Provide training to staff on risk management (e.g., data privacy, intellectual property, MLB compliance).
- Manage litigation matters with outside counsel, including document production and discovery requests.
- Select and retain outside counsel for litigation, employment, immigration, and intellectual property matters.
- Assess and manage enterprise-wide risk and liability, including serving on the Club’s Risk Management Committee.
- Serve as the legal contact with MLB for the league-wide insurance program, including annual renewals and claim processing.
- Advise the Human Resources department on employment and personnel matters.
- Serve on the Club’s Code of Conduct Response Team and assist in drafting disciplinary actions.
- Advise on major business transactions and negotiate agreements such as concessionaire/merchandising agreements, ballpark lease amendments, and media rights agreements.
- Conduct contract and policy compliance audits to ensure adherence to laws and MLB policies.
- Develop relationships with MLB Central Office and club legal teams to establish consistent Club policies.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing legal education and industry seminars.
Requirements
- JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with a state bar association; ability to register with the Minnesota State Bar.
- Minimum of 10+ years of post-bar experience with a law firm or as in-house counsel (relevant pre-bar experience considered).
- Significant experience in contract drafting, negotiating, and corporate law.
- Experience in regulatory and/or league compliance.
- People management experience with the ability to build consensus among internal and external stakeholders.
Skills
- Strong understanding of transactional, corporate, M&A, litigation, real estate, and labor law as it relates to the Club’s interests.
- Ability to develop and implement legal strategies that protect and advance the Club’s business objectives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the entertainment or sports industry.
- Experience as in-house counsel in a corporate law department.
- Expertise in mergers and acquisitions and/or transactional real estate matters.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to navigate ballpark facilities.
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $350,000 to $500,000 annually. This role is eligible for a performance-based bonus, with total cash compensation likely exceeding the base salary depending on bonus payouts.
