Senior Veterinary Assistant

About the role

The Senior Veterinary Assistant with a focus on Surgery is needed at Haile Plantation Animal Clinic to provide outstanding patient care and client service in a fast-paced, multi-doctor animal hospital.

Responsibilities

• See surgical appointments and perform diagnostics prior to surgery
• Administer and monitor anesthesia in the pre-, peri-, and post-operative periods
• Maintain treatment while in hospital post-operatively, discharge patients, and communicate with clients
• Work in both outpatient and surgical areas, including weekend coverage
• Assist veterinarians during initial examinations by restraining animals, stocking rooms, sterilizing tools, and ensuring equipment is in working order
• Perform technical tasks such as venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia administration, monitoring, dental prophy, radiography, administering medications, performing laboratory analysis, and client education
• Communicate with clients and update patient files

Requirements

• Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, healthy and positive communication skills, and the ability to multi-task in a hands-on environment
• Energetic people-and-pet person with excellent work ethic and social and organizational skills
• Compassionate/caring
• Previous veterinary experience including surgery
• Willing to work flexible hours including weekends
• Can work individually and on a team
• Self-starter personality that can complete daily tasks without the need for constant direction
• Prior experience preferred

• Prior customer service and veterinary experience
• Basic computer skills
