Senior Veterinary Assistant
Atlas Pet Clinic is seeking a Full-Time Senior Veterinary Assistant to help provide outstanding patient care and client service in a fast-paced, multi-doctor animal hospital.
About the role
The Senior Veterinary Assistant assists Veterinarians in the care of animals, helps during initial examinations by restraining animals when necessary, stocks examination and surgery rooms with supplies, sterilizes tools, and ensures that equipment is in working order.
Technical skills may include, but are not limited to, and are subject to state limitations: venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia administration, anesthesia monitoring, dental prophy, radiography, administering medications, performing laboratory analysis, and client education. The Senior Veterinary Assistant also communicates with clients (pet owners) and updates patient files.
This position requires regular on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Due to the nature of veterinary hospital operations, in-person attendance is necessary to support patient care, respond to time-sensitive needs, collaborate with clinical teams, and maintain the safety and well-being of patients, clients, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist Veterinarians in the care of animals
- Restrain animals during initial examinations
- Stock examination and surgery rooms with supplies
- Sterilize tools and ensure equipment is in working order
- Perform technical tasks such as venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia administration and monitoring, dental prophy, radiography, administering medications, and laboratory analysis (subject to state limitations)
- Communicate with clients (pet owners) and provide client education
- Update patient files
Requirements
- Prior experience working with animals in a hospital setting
- Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and positive communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in a hands-on environment
- Energetic, compassionate, and caring attitude
- Excellent work ethic and social and organizational skills
- Willing to work flexible hours including weekends
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs
- Prior customer service experience
