Responsibilities
- Develop preliminary project scopes and conceptual designs that align with customer and company objectives.
- Complete pre-construction surveys, feasibility reviews, and other preliminary estimating research and documentation.
- Conduct thorough reviews of plans and specifications to ensure complete scope coverage and accurate takeoffs.
- Review and interpret contract specifications, drawings, and project documents to ensure estimates align with project requirements.
- Perform accurate takeoffs and develop comprehensive pricing estimates for equipment, labor, materials, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
- Develop general conditions, allowances, exclusions, and contingencies as part of project estimates.
- Obtain and apply applicable wage rates, including prevailing wage requirements and labor classifications, based on jurisdiction or contract requirements.
- Absorb and apply industry-standard estimating software, tools, and emerging technologies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain organized estimating files, assumption logs, and historical cost data to support future bids and continuous improvement.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and occasional customer-facing site visits or presentations to validate assumptions and review proposed solutions.
- Stay current on industry-standard estimating software, tools, and emerging technologies, and evaluate new solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Manage the entire bid process including subcontractor solicitation and follow through, bid document management, and evaluation of subcontractor proposals/bids.
- Manage the post bid process by verifying scope schedule and pricing within established parameters.
- Present estimate(s) to executive leadership.
- Assign work to subordinates, direct and review their assignments and ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates prepared by subordinates.
- Assists in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and relative cost estimates as required.
- Assist project and construction management team during pre-design and construction planning, project execution and upon completion.
- Meet with client management, staff, and supervisory personnel to introduce services, expertise and capabilities of the company.
- Accumulate, evaluate, and document historical cost data, current trends and construction procedures and methods in order to keep current with estimating standards and databases.
- Build relationships with subcontractors and vendors as a resource and stay informed of upcoming shifts in the market related to pricing.
- Notify management group of upcoming projects status and approximate timing for company proposal and bid submittals.
- Assist in the development of area marketing plans and goals, and in developing strategy for management client contacts regarding procurement of work, estimating services.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of proven experience in commercial solar estimation, construction estimation, and/or design, or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience considered.
- Experience estimating Utility Scale Solar projects (electrical and mechanical).
- NABCEP PV Design Certification, NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification or NABCEP PV System Inspector Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, electrical systems, and solar balance-of-system components (required).
- Proficiency in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) software.
- Proficiency with ACCUBID estimating software, spreadsheets, and document management tools.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, including plans, specifications, proposals, quotes, and qualifications.
- Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret technical documents, including design plans and specifications, and prepare proposals and detailed estimates.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work tactfully and effectively with leaders across departments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers by phone and email.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-7 years’ experience in construction. Experience in estimating, cost control and/or estimating experience related to Utility-Scale Solar, electrical, or other related construction experience.

- Base Compensation: $125,000
