About the Role

The Senior Utilities Engineer Supervisor, under general direction, participates in establishing and implementing the mission, goals, objectives, and priorities of the Rail Transit Safety Branch (RTSB). This role plans, assigns, organizes, and directs the work of a group of Utilities Engineers and other professional staff responsible for the safety oversight of public and private rail transit systems. Responsibilities include training staff, assigning and reviewing work, coordinating daily activities, evaluating performance, and processing administrative tasks for the section.

The position requires travel within California, occasional evening and weekend work, and possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, organize, and direct the work of Utilities Engineers and professional staff overseeing rail transit system safety.
• Train staff, evaluate work performance, and recommend appropriate actions.
• Coordinate and analyze complex engineering tasks related to rail transit safety oversight, including project safety certification, accident investigations, triennial audits, and safety reviews of operations and maintenance.
• Participate in revising internal General Orders and RTSB procedures.
• Process administrative work for the section and recommend courses of action.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C.
• Professional engineering license required.
• Ability to travel within California, including overnight stays, and work evenings/weekends as needed.
• Prepare and submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) detailing how your training, experience, and education qualify you for the position (max 2 pages, 11-point Arial font, single-spaced).
• Submit a cover letter (max 1 page, 11-point Arial font, single-spaced) describing your qualifications.
• Provide transcripts or diplomas if using education to meet minimum qualifications (foreign degrees must be verified for U.S. equivalency).
• Complete the State Application (STD 678) with detailed employment history, including dates, duties, and supervisor contact information.

Pay

$11,437.00 - $14,315.00 per month.
