Senior Underwriter, Primary Casualty USRM

AXA XL provides customized risk management programs for major businesses and institutions operating in the U.S. This role is part of the Central Zone underwriting team, focusing on establishing robust relationships internally and externally while acting as the critical interface between brokers, clients, and the company. The position requires a hybrid in-office schedule and can be based in either Chicago or Dallas.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, underwrite, manage, and service a profitable book of new and renewal business per AXA XL underwriting guidelines.
  • Conduct risk review and analysis, determining terms, conditions, and appropriate pricing in accordance with granted authority and AXA XL guidelines.
  • Effectively negotiate and secure policy terms that align with AXA XL directives.
  • Cultivate key broker relationships in the region to maintain a steady stream of business within underwriting appetite.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with accounts, providing risk stewardship, including initial setup of service commitments and ongoing consultation.
  • Complete all required steps for account setup, documentation, and account management.
  • Partner with internal service providers to build long-term relationships between customers, brokers, and AXA XL, managing expectations of all parties.
  • Cross-market with other AXA XL lines and meet with brokers and insureds as required.
  • Develop and manage underwriting strategies for renewals and targets within your portfolio, including knowledge of current product penetration, cross-marketing opportunities, and plans to increase company share.

Requirements

  • Moderate to extensive experience underwriting large risk management accounts, with a focus on high deductible, self-insured retentions, captives, group captives, bundled, and unbundled claims.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation, general liability, and automobile lines of business.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers and producers.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong sales and marketing abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinking: ability to visualize what doesn’t exist and know how to achieve it.
  • Mental agility: innovative thinker, willing to challenge conventional ideas and handle highly complex situations.
  • Outstanding demonstration of initiative, interpersonal skills, integrity, and a professional demeanor.

Pay

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 107,600 - 199,100. Actual pay will be determined based on the individual’s skills, experience, and location.
