About the role

Assurant is seeking a Senior Underwriter to evaluate complex homeowners and condo risks, make sound coverage and pricing decisions, and help drive profitable growth across our P&C product portfolio. In this role, you will balance customer needs with risk quality, partner across underwriting, product, data, claims, actuarial, legal, and technology teams, and contribute to the ongoing modernization of underwriting workflows. This is an opportunity for an experienced underwriter who is energized by the future of insurance and has experience with AI-enabled underwriting, workflow automation, predictive analytics, digital platforms, APIs, rule engines, or similar insurance technology.

You will join a growing product area with room to influence how homeowners and condo underwriting evolves. You will gain exposure to a large, diversified company with opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow as the product portfolio expands.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite complex new and renewal homeowners and condo submissions, including property details, requested coverage, eligibility, prior losses, risk exposures, and broader market considerations.
  • Determine whether risks qualify for Assurant programs, set appropriate coverage terms, and support pricing decisions that balance customer needs with profitable portfolio outcomes.
  • Use underwriting judgment, data, analytics, automated workflows, AI-assisted insights, digital tools, and emerging technologies to improve risk assessment and decision quality.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend updates to underwriting guidelines, appetite, rules, and processes.
  • Partner with product, technology, data, actuarial, claims, legal, and other internal teams to support underwriting strategy, product development, process optimization, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical resource for less-experienced underwriters by sharing expertise, coaching on complex risks, and helping strengthen underwriting consistency.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, agents, brokers, partners, and support teams while clearly explaining underwriting decisions and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in P&C underwriting
  • Active P&C Insurance license

Qualifications

  • AINS, CPCU, or ARM designation
  • Experience underwriting homeowners, condo, personal-lines property, commercial property, or comparable property risks
  • Experience using technology-enabled underwriting tools in a work setting—such as automated workflows, predictive analytics, AI-assisted insights, digital underwriting platforms, or rules-based decisioning—as part of day-to-day risk assessment and underwriting

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • 401(k) with a 6% company match
  • Paid time off, holidays, and a volunteer day
  • Employee wellness and mental health resources

Schedule

This role is performed in a virtual office environment with general office demands. Travel is not required, though there may be limited opportunities to attend specific conferences or business events.
