Senior Underwriter

As a Senior Reinsurance Underwriter for Property Treaty, you will underwrite and maintain profitable new and renewal business, exercising judgment based on comprehensive analysis of reinsurance submissions. You will increase market share through targeted marketing and maximize team efficiency while providing quality service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite terms and conditions of new and renewal accounts by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing account information in line with risk appetite.
  • Gain proficiency with internal pricing and modeling tools to establish appropriate pricing options on accounts in various structures and lines of business.
  • Negotiate with brokers and clients, providing constructive feedback and alternative risk solutions.
  • Make presentations to senior management on larger accounts, articulating and supporting thought processes clearly.
  • Execute strategic underwriting plans aligned with premium and profitability objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal, Accounting, and Underwriting Service Departments on pricing, contract wording, premium and loss bookings, and claims to ensure profitability and compliance.
  • Develop, maintain, and service a profitable book of business; participate in customer account renewal meetings and underwrite audits; provide top-quality customer service to brokers and cedants.
  • Work closely with the Manager on business development activities, including identifying key brokers and markets, planning marketing activities, and attending industry conventions.
  • Contribute to a high-performance team by understanding department and business unit goals.
  • Recognize broader relationships on accounts within reinsurance and take initiative on cross-selling opportunities.
  • Network with industry peers to stay current on market dynamics.
  • Perform other related duties, including general administration and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management, Finance, or related field from an accredited college/university.
  • Extensive relevant experience as an underwriter, with treaty or facultative reinsurance preferred.
  • Professional qualifications (ARe, CPCU, etc.) preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of reinsurance markets, placement structures, and underwriting approaches.
  • Experience and established relationships with reinsurance brokers and ceding company contacts.
  • Significant experience in the rating and analysis of pro rata and excess loss business.
  • Proven knowledge of reinsurance contracts and associated market practices.
  • Math aptitude and strong PC skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of external rating and exposure models (e.g., RMS, AIR).

Pay

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 107,600–$209,100. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.
