Senior Underwriter
About the role
You’re report to the Director of Underwriting and lead pricing strategy, product development, and portfolio analytics to drive underwriting performance across travel agency and e-commerce channels. You'll bring analytical rigor and the judgment to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive decisions across the business.
Responsibilities
- Apply independent judgment to underwriting decisions and portfolio assessments, connecting data insights to business implications and strategic recommendations.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
- Conduct portfolio reviews to assess account-level profitability, identify underperforming programs, and recommend remediation strategies including pricing adjustments, product redesign, or partner renegotiation.
- Develop and validate pricing strategies for existing and new insurance and non-insurance programs, leveraging actuarial input, data-driven models, and market benchmarks.
- Enhance and build pricing models and underwriting tools using statistical techniques, predictive modeling, and scenario analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead cross-functional pricing and product development initiatives with compliance, actuarial, LOB, and data teams, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, regulatory standards, and profitability targets.
- Design and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to monitor underwriting performance, ensuring data integrity and quality across underwriting systems.
- Work effectively in an environment shaped by artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data analytics, and cloud-based tools, using insights responsibly and in alignment with our standards for data governance, security, and ethical use.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in underwriting, actuarial pricing, or financial/data analytics roles with significant exposure to risk assessment and portfolio management in insurance or related fields.
- Strong judgment and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations and defend a position under scrutiny.
- Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel and SQL; Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI) and statistical programming languages (Python, R) preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Leadership mindset with abilty to influence without authority.

Pay
Annualized base pay range is $96,300 - $141,174 USD Actual base pay may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location.
Schedule
This role offers a hybrid way of working Monday through Friday with 2 in-office days on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our office in Richmond, VA.
