About the role
The Senior Underwriter administers the underwriting agencies within their assigned territory, ensuring compliance with company underwriting, authority, and pricing standards. This role drives new business opportunities and maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Write a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing, and servicing.
- Maintain compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines.
- Operate within written authority and make referrals to management and Home Office Underwriting as required.
- Collaborate closely with Underwriting, Sales, and support teams.
- Partner with Territory Management to develop and implement the territory business plan and share accountability for meeting goals.
- Develop, manage, and maintain outside client relationships, including limited travel within the territory to meet with assigned agencies.
- Actively participate in industry events, such as agency or association conventions.
- Exhibit professional, timely, and courteous communication and service to external clients and internal staff.
- Provide pertinent information and guidance to support staff to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines.
- Gather and communicate competitive information.
- Maintain current knowledge of market trends and demands.
- Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of workers compensation, commercial property, casualty, automobile, and umbrella insurance coverage, risk selection, methods, and pricing.
- 5+ years of commercial lines property and casualty experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays within the assigned territory as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make informed, calculated decisions.
Qualifications
Preferred designations include CPCU, AU, CIC, or other industry certifications. Ability to train, coach, and mentor individuals of various backgrounds within your area of expertise.
