This is an exempt, hybrid position located in Albany, NY. The contract duration is 36 months with potential for extension, starting September 15, 2026. W2 hourly rate: $68–$78/hour.
About the role
We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to support our NYS client. The consultant will lead user-centered design activities across complex client-facing and internal applications, translating business goals and stakeholder needs into accessible, multi-device experiences. This role will guide junior designers, conduct user research and usability testing, create full-lifecycle UX deliverables, and collaborate closely with developers and stakeholders from strategy through implementation and application support.
Responsibilities
- Manage and provide guidance to a team of junior designers.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to understand business goals and solve complex business issues from strategy through execution.
- Design, develop, and implement client-facing and internal applications that support strategic initiatives.
- Apply enterprise architecture principles across application areas to align delivery models and capabilities with business needs.
- Synthesize information from multiple sources and stakeholder perspectives to develop solutions and recommendations.
- Address defects and enhancements throughout the application support lifecycle and participate in post-implementation incident resolution as required.
- Create and execute user research plans using surveys, interviews, focus groups, and related methods, and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Plan and facilitate design thinking workshops, including journey mapping and user needs modeling.
- Create UX deliverables including user models, scenarios, sketches, user stories, user flows, interactive prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, and sitemaps.
- Plan and conduct usability testing, analyze user feedback and activity, and iterate designs to improve the user experience.
- Partner closely with developers to bring designs to life, support content development, and create or refine coded prototypes.
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative UX metrics to validate usability.
- Design responsive experiences for multi-device web, iOS, and Android environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience working on complex projects, including two (2) or more years in a leadership role as a UX Engineer.
- 7+ years of UI/UX engineering experience across the full lifecycle of design deliverables, including wireframes, mockups, journey maps, prototypes, storyboards, and user surveys.
- 1+ years’ experience working across various workstreams within an Integrated Eligibility System program in a Health and Human Services setting.
- 7+ years’ experience with Adobe Creative Suite or Figma.
- 2+ years’ experience with user research, user modeling, and usability testing.
- 2+ years’ experience with CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript.
