Senior UAS Software Engineer
About the role
The Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor Program offers one of the most sophisticated small tactical unmanned aerial systems (STUAS) with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). It can be used day or night by US and allied forces for a diverse range of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) on land and at sea.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and design new software features.
- Gather requirements and designs the software model for the required features.
- Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, well annotated code.
- Thoroughly tests software in standalone and hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
- Continually improves existing software, troubleshooting and debugging complex technical issues.
- Identify and track risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement in software and system design.
- Supports the creation of and/or writes user manuals for use of software.
- Document engineering concepts, design, test results, and analysis in technical reports.
- Support flight testing as required.
- Maintain current knowledge of software engineering best practices, architecture, languages, and tools.
- Implement best practice in work and recommends improvements to current practices.
- Transfer knowledge of system and software design to peers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science degree in an engineering field, or equivalent technical degree and experience.
- 10 years experience in software development, design and engineering.
- (C++, C#)
- Demonstrated expertise in understanding and documenting advanced technical, engineering, and scientific concepts.
- Proven experience writing clean, maintainable, reusable code using engineering standard methodologies.
- Knowledge in working with software, including Microsoft Office, Git, DITA, XML, and Jira.
- Authorized to work in the US without current or future need for visa sponsorship.
Qualifications
- Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings daily.
- Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms daily.
- Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications daily.
- Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment daily.
- Carrying: able to carry documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
- Lifting: able to lift documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs daily.
- Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture occasionally.
- Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving occasionally.
- Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices daily.
- Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice, rarely- 5%.
- Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces daily.
- Personal Protective Equipment required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Pay
Salary range based on the required profile: $147,000 - $185,000/year. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Schedule
Onsite: 100% - onsite in Bingen, Washington or Grand Prairie, Texas.
