Senior Software Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with 10–14 years of professional experience to design, develop, and optimize advanced AI agent solutions in the payer domain. This role focuses on leveraging large language models, Java, Python, Spring Boot, and Node.js to build secure, scalable, and compliant platforms that improve healthcare outcomes and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement production-grade AI agent workflows leveraging large language models to automate payer domain processes.
- Develop and optimize backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot for resilient, scalable APIs supporting AI-driven features.
- Create robust Python components for data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model orchestration.
- Apply advanced prompt engineering techniques to maximize model relevance, accuracy, and safety in payer-specific use cases.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and data scientists to translate business requirements into technical designs.
- Implement secure coding practices and data protection mechanisms to safeguard protected health information (PHI).
- Conduct code reviews, unit tests, integration tests, and performance tests to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Optimize application performance and scalability through profiling, tuning, and concurrency improvements.
- Document system designs, API contracts, runbooks, and AI behavior guidelines for transparency and auditability.
- Partner with DevOps teams to containerize services, configure CI/CD pipelines, and monitor production systems.
- Collaborate with compliance and security teams to ensure adherence to payer regulations and organizational policies.
- Mentor junior engineers to foster engineering excellence and responsible AI delivery.
- Partner with stakeholders to measure the impact of AI-driven features on cost of care, processing speed, and member satisfaction.
- Engage in continuous learning on emerging AI techniques, LLM capabilities, and payer industry trends.
Qualifications
- 10–14 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on large-scale backend systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Java and Spring Boot for cloud-ready microservices.
- Strong skills in Node.js for event-driven and API-centric applications.
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and model orchestration.
- Experience in payer or healthcare insurance domains, including claims processing and regulatory constraints.
- Solid knowledge of software design principles, microservice patterns, and integration best practices.
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and monitoring tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for complex payer workflows.

Salary And Other Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between $90K – $140K, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
