Senior Tunnel Engineer / Regional Manager

About the role

This position supports rapid growth in tunnel and trenchless design and construction management within our Underground Services Practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of experience on major underground, tunnel, and trenchless projects, including both design and construction management roles.

Responsibilities

• Project Management – develop proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for tunnel, trenchless, and rehabilitation projects.
• Lead tasks and teams of designers and construction supervision staff.
• Produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
• Build a network of clients within the tunnel industry to facilitate teaming and execution of successful pursuits and projects.
• Perform geotechnical engineering for tunnel and trenchless design and construction of transit (road/rail) and municipal water/wastewater conveyance facilities.
• Produce geotechnical engineering calculations (including numerical analysis) for tunnel and trenchless design, including support of excavation (shafts & tunnels – connection details and complex structures), adhering to local and national codes for concrete, steel, and timber design.
• Prepare Technical Memoranda, Geotechnical Data Reports (GDRs), and Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBRs).
• Develop design parameters from geotechnical reports through parametric studies/evaluations.
• Increase LJB’s visibility by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study (required).
• Master’s degree in civil engineering, Geological/Geotechnical/Structural, or related field (preferred).
• Registered Professional Engineer in California.
• PMP certification (preferred).
• 15+ years of relevant experience with a minimum of 10 years in tunnel, trenchless, or underground projects.
• Experience in proposal writing and a track record of successful business development.
• Substantial expertise in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of tunnel and trenchless projects.
• Track record of building tunnel design capabilities supported by geotechnical and structural engineers and geologists.
• Knowledge of a wide range of tunnel and trenchless construction methods.
• Excellent technical writing, communication skills, and thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, and trends.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.

Schedule

• Office-based assignments: standard weekday business hours.
• Field work: may include weekdays, nights, and weekends.

Pay

Annual compensation: $200,000+ based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
