About the role

This is a full-time, remote position based in Nashville, TN with a duration of 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of civil litigation matters, actively directing and advancing each claim from initial notice of loss or lawsuit inception through final resolution.
  • Meet with clients and claims professionals to discuss strategy, evaluate legal files, and resolve cases in the most cost-effective, expeditious, and legally sound manner.
  • Independently investigate, research, and develop legal theories and affirmative defenses tailored to the specifics of each civil litigation claim.
  • Engage in robust motion practice, complex discovery, depositions, and targeted legal research to build powerful defenses and advocate effectively for clients.
  • Represent clients and the firm's interests at pre-trials, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, conferences, or any other court-mandated legal proceedings with professional decorum.
  • Independently conduct trials, effectively presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and presenting arguments of law to a judge or jury for final determination of facts at issue.
  • Collaborate closely with claims adjusters, litigation support staff, and corporate clients, providing legal advice, case evaluations, and participating in roundtable discussions regarding case status and trial preparedness.
  • Take active responsibility for mentoring, teaching, and supporting less experienced attorneys and support staff within the firm.

Requirements

  • Admitted to the Tennessee Bar and licensed to practice law in assigned jurisdictions, maintaining active status in good standing.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and demonstrate a strict ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated ability to assist, defend, or plead for another on moderate and complex cases, with a proven ability to effectively present evidence and arguments of law to a judge or jury.
  • Strong communication and negotiation techniques to consistently and effectively influence favorable claim outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts, theories, and opinions, and to translate complex legal terms into plain language for clients and claims adjusters.
  • Strong ability to arrive at sound determinations in moderate to complex legal situations after careful consideration of facts and law, showing high resilience under unexpected challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to categorize and prioritize work to maximize productivity, combined with proficiency in step-by-step inquiries, examinations, and preservation of legal evidence.
  • Proficiency in locating and interpreting cases, codified laws, and statutes to draw accurate, reasonable conclusions and render clear legal opinions.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in insurance defense litigation is preferred.
  • Trial experience is a strong asset, but attorneys with deep litigation backgrounds (e.g., strong motion practice, extensive depositions, and advocacy in mediations or hearings) are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Admission to the Georgia Bar is strongly desired but not required.
  • High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily proactive management of email and legal calendars.
  • Ability to work seamlessly in a highly collaborative team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, legal support staff, and claims professionals.
  • Outstanding knowledge of courtroom behavior, attire, and decorum, including deep familiarity with rules and regulations governing proceedings in courts of law and other legal tribunals.
  • A willingness and natural ability to mentor, guide, and teach less experienced attorneys and support staff.
  • A willingness to stretch into and learn other areas of law, such as employment practices liability and professional liability matters.

Pay

Salary range: $100,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year.
