Senior Treasury Accountant
Summary of Responsibilities
Merus is seeking a high-performing, detail-oriented Senior Treasury Accountant to join our growing finance and accounting team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the company’s treasury operations, liquidity management, banking relationships, and corporate finance activities across a complex portfolio of real estate development, construction, and operating entities. As a Senior Treasury Accountant, you will be responsible for leading treasury operations, monitoring cash and liquidity across the enterprise, supporting financing and real estate transactions, and ensuring strong financial controls and banking processes. You will collaborate closely with the accounting, development, capital, and leadership teams while helping build and scale a modern treasury function that supports the continued growth of the organization.
Essential Job Functions
- Treasury Operations & Banking: Lead the administration of corporate banking relationships, including account setup, maintenance, and authorized signer management. Manage online banking platforms, user access, controls, and payment workflows. Prepare and review wire and ACH transactions in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Support and enforce treasury policies, fraud prevention controls, and banking best practices. Coordinate and lead bank requirements and documentation related to real estate transactions and financing activities.
- Cash Management & Liquidity: Maintain visibility into daily cash balances and liquidity across multiple entities and projects. Monitor performance of external cash investments, including maturity timing and reinvestment recommendations. Lead quarterly and semi-annual reviews of investment advisors. Prepare and review short-term cash flow forecasts and liquidity planning tools. Coordinate cash movement across accounts to optimize funding and disbursement timing. Prepare treasury reporting for leadership, including cash summaries, trends, and liquidity analyses.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review recurring treasury and cash reporting, including bank balances, outstanding accounts receivable and payable, and intercompany activity. Track, report, and review loan draw funding activity in partnership with the Capital team. Prepare and review ad hoc analyses related to cash management, financing activity, investment performance, and project funding. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic business decisions.
- Deal & Project Support: Partner with development, capital, and accounting teams to support acquisitions, dispositions, construction funding draws, and banking setup activities. Support real estate transactions by coordinating financial requirements with banking partners and internal stakeholders. Assist with project funding strategies and cash planning throughout the project lifecycle.
- Accounting & Controls: Prepare and review complex corporate bank reconciliations. Support the monthly and quarterly close process related to cash, debt, and treasury activities. Ensure compliance with internal controls, treasury policies, and segregation of duties requirements. Coordinate audit requests and documentation related to cash management, debt activity, and treasury processes. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation for treasury transactions.
- Process Improvement & Systems: Lead efforts to streamline treasury processes and improve operational efficiency. Support the implementation, enhancement, and optimization of treasury workflows. Assist in the development and refinement of cash forecasting tools and reporting processes. Support ERP and banking platform integrations. Contribute to the development of a scalable treasury function that supports future growth. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through technology, automation, and process enhancements.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 4-6+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, treasury, or finance.
- Strong understanding of cash accounting, treasury operations, bank reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience working in multi-entity environments preferred.
- Experience with treasury and cash management functions preferred.
- Experience in real estate, construction, or project-based accounting preferred.
- Experience with banking platforms, payment systems, and treasury workflows preferred.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
- Proven ability to leverage technology to improve financial processes and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated initiative to expand professional knowledge and grow within accounting, treasury, and finance functions.

Physical Demands
Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk. Maximum unassisted lift is 35 lbs. Average lift is less than 10 lbs. Requires ability to use a keyboard and monitor. Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone. May require some travel by car.
