About the role
Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Transportation Project Manager to help grow our Des Moines office. This role is ideal for a senior leader who brings strong technical expertise, a passion for building client relationships, and a proven ability to win and deliver work. This individual will play a key role in shaping FHU's growth in Iowa, leading business development efforts, supporting project delivery, and providing leadership to local staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead business development efforts in the Des Moines region and Iowa, with a focus on Iowa DOT and Municipal clients
- Develop and execute a regional business development strategy aligned with FHU growth goals
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and actively position FHU for upcoming pursuits
- Demonstrate the ability to win work and grow backlog
- Provide day-to-day leadership within the Des Moines office, supporting staff development, hiring, and retention
- Mentor and develop staff while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Support recruiting and help build a strong local team aligned with FHU culture
- Serve as Project Manager on transportation projects, including roadway, traffic, and planning efforts
- Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and quality
- Provide technical guidance and QA/QC oversight on project deliverables
- Cover internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
- Maintain strong working relationships with Iowa DOT and support ongoing coordination efforts
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Minimum 10 years of experience in transportation engineering; traffic, or roadway design
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with the Iowa DOT
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing staff
- Prioritization of strong communication and relationship-building skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MicroStation (InRoads/OpenRoads)
- Background in traffic engineering, or roadway design
- Experience working with local municipalities in Iowa
Pay
The pay for this position has a range of $140,000 - $170,000 annually. The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
