Senior Transmission Planning Consultant

About the role

This is a senior, client-facing opportunity supporting complex transmission planning initiatives across the electric utility industry. You’ll lead advanced studies that inform grid reliability, resource planning, congestion management, and regulatory compliance. The role combines deep technical expertise with project leadership, client advisory, and team mentorship. You’ll work directly with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, cooperatives, and other energy-sector stakeholders to define objectives and develop practical methodologies. Your work will span stability, power flow, reliability, short-circuit, production costing, and generator interconnection analyses. As a trusted technical advisor, you’ll help translate complex engineering findings into actionable recommendations and high-quality deliverables. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to shape meaningful energy-sector projects while collaborating with experienced professionals across North America.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage advanced transmission planning studies covering transient stability, power flow, transfer capability, reliability, short-circuit, congestion management, and economic dispatch.
• Serve as a primary client contact, defining project objectives, methodologies, scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and oversight throughout project execution.
• Perform and oversee transmission adequacy and reliability assessments, including contingency analysis, flowgate analysis, and import/export limit assessments.
• Prepare, review, and present detailed technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, analyses, findings, and recommendations.
• Support generator interconnection, production costing, TPL compliance, harmonics, and related transmission planning initiatives.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers and consultants, supporting knowledge transfer and professional development.
• Contribute to proposals, client meetings, business development activities, and thought leadership initiatives.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to strengthen technical capabilities and develop or enhance service offerings.
• Manage competing priorities effectively while maintaining high standards for technical quality, client service, and delivery.
