Senior Transmission NVH Developer
About the Role
Lead transmission, driveline, and related engine-system noise, vibration, harshness (NVH), and sound quality development for vehicle programs. This on-site role focuses on hands-on testing, objective data analysis, issue resolution, and cross-functional technical leadership from early development through launch.
Responsibilities
- Lead transmission and driveline NVH development, validation, and vehicle-level integration.
- Define and track NVH targets, KPIs, objective metrics, and launch-readiness status.
- Plan and execute vehicle, dyno, test cell, bench, and proving ground NVH evaluations.
- Analyze gear mesh orders, modulation, ghost orders, sidebands, torsional behavior, and structure-borne noise paths.
- Evaluate engine-related excitation and engine-to-driveline interaction, including combustion orders, torque pulsation, mount behavior, accessory excitation, and calibration effects.
- Lead root-cause investigations and drive validated technical solutions with cross-functional teams.
- Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to engineering, program, supplier, and leadership stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Acoustics, or related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in automotive NVH, transmission, driveline, propulsion systems, or vehicle development.
- Strong understanding of transmission gearsets, gear mesh behavior, torque transfer paths, torsional dynamics, engine operating behavior, combustion order content, torque pulsation, rotating orders, sidebands, bearings, housings, and structure-borne noise paths.
- Experience with NVH instrumentation, order tracking, data acquisition, objective analysis, and subjective vehicle evaluation.
- Ability to work independently, lead issue resolution, and collaborate effectively with technicians, engineers, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant automotive NVH, powertrain, transmission, driveline, or vehicle development experience.
- Experience with automatic transmissions, hybrid transmissions, dual-clutch transmissions, transfer cases, reduction gearsets, differential gearsets, planetary gearsets, or related driveline systems.
- Knowledge of engine systems and engine NVH interactions, including combustion orders, firing frequency behavior, torque pulsation, engine mount tuning, accessory excitation, calibration effects, and engine-to-driveline noise paths.
- Knowledge of Electric Drive Modules, eAxles, motor order behavior, torque ripple, inverter-related excitation, and electrified driveline NVH interactions is a plus.
- Experience with CAE correlation, launch support, warranty investigations, benchmarking, target setting, or NVH best-practice development.
Skills
- Hands-on NVH testing and troubleshooting
- Transmission, driveline, and engine-system technical depth
- Disciplined root-cause analysis and issue closure
- Clear communication of complex technical findings
- Cross-functional influence and collaboration
- Strong focus on sound quality, refinement, and launch readiness
