Senior Transmission Line Estimator

About the role

Welty Energy is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight on transmission, substation, and distribution projects ranging from 4kV to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, we operate nationally and manage approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Create utility project estimates and act as an extension of our client's team.
• Provide best-in-class service by consulting on select projects and assisting the Welty Project Management Team.
• Mentor junior estimators and be involved with consulting on select projects.
• Work remotely in the mainland United States, operating in ET hours.
• Produce conceptual new transmission and distribution line routes on a Google Earth KMZ file with pole placements.
• Create and review transmission/distribution lines.
• Write Scope of Work for conceptual/pre-funding approval projects.
• Coordinate with other scoping and estimating team members, planning and protection engineering, sponsors, regional contacts, and personnel from the supplemental support estimate staff.
• Attend regional meetings with planning, protection, and other stakeholders to review the status of all open estimates.
• Review, approve, and/or reject estimate requests in OPPM.
• Build accurate project schedule timelines for transmission line and support estimates.

Requirements

• Ability to effectively manage a high-volume workload while communicating efficiently and effectively with internal and external clients.
• Solid understanding of engineering design / drawing packages.
• High school or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical degree is advantageous.
• 8+ years of either transmission line design or estimating experience within the electric utility industry is required.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, specifically within Excel.

Preferred

• Sage Estimating software, Navigator, OPPM (Primavera P6), Google Earth, PLS-CADD.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with Transmission line design, construction, and/or testing.
