Activities + Responsibilities
- Conduct traffic studies to evaluate current traffic flow, congestion, and safety issues.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret traffic data through field surveys, automated traffic counters, and other data sources.
- Assess traffic signal performance, road capacity, and intersection efficiency.
- Prepare and review traffic impact studies for new developments, zoning changes, and proposed infrastructure projects.
- Evaluate accident reports to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Develop and maintain traffic models using software tools such as SYNCHRO or VISSIM to predict the impact of future traffic patterns and infrastructure changes.
- Simulate traffic conditions to evaluate proposed road designs, signalization plans, and multimodal transportation improvements.
- Perform capacity analysis of roadways, intersections, and public transportation systems.
- Use modeling tools to forecast traffic volumes and make recommendations for optimizing traffic flow and minimizing congestion.
- Work with urban planners, architects, and other engineering disciplines to develop transportation solutions that support the municipality's goals.
- Evaluate and design traffic control measures, including traffic signal installations, roundabouts, and road reconfigurations.
- Review and provide input on proposed developments, ensuring compliance with traffic safety and operational standards.
- Prepare reports and presentations for municipal leaders, stakeholders, and the public regarding traffic analysis findings and recommendations.
- Participate in public meetings and workshops to discuss traffic projects, plans, and studies with residents and stakeholders.
- Develop recommendations for improving traffic safety based on analysis and modeling results.
- Promote environmentally friendly transportation options and integrate green technologies into transportation planning.
- Prepare and submit technical reports, grant applications, and documentation for regulatory approvals.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of traffic management plans for special events and construction projects.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Familiarity with software for mapping and data analysis.
- Experience in a municipal or public-sector transportation environment & Experience with traffic data collection techniques and analysis tools.
- Knowledge of transportation planning
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on traffic analysis and modeling.
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred but not required
- Proficiency in traffic modeling software (e.g., SYNCHRO, VISSIM, AIMSUN, or similar).
