Senior Traction Power Engineer
Job Summary
WSP is seeking a Senior Traction Power Engineer for their Minneapolis, MN office. This role involves projects with the Transit and Rail Team and contributes to a growing organization that meets client objectives and addresses their challenges.
About the role
Technical competence in all aspects of transit traction power engineering. Responsibilities include preparing and guiding drafters/designers and less experienced engineers to prepare One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, emergency trip, grounding and lighting, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, project scheduling, test plans, field tests, reports, analysis, and technical studies for traction power systems. Grounding design, load flow, harmonic, power flow, voltage drop, protective relay settings and coordination, and arc flash studies using specialized software are also part of the role. Assist in developing systemwide ductbank drawings by coordinating with respective system disciplines. Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations, and supporting vendor selection. Perform site investigations and walk-downs in medium voltage (MV) substations and along electrified railroads. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior transit and rail experience.
- Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with clients, supervisors, office staff, and inspectors regarding project status and issues, drawings, specifications, and qualification test results.
- Detail-oriented, capable of detecting non-conformities and completing detailed reports within a timely manner.
- Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Bluebeam Software.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
- The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer license (multi-state preferred).
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
- Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera scheduling.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $90,000 - $150,000
