The Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) is a critical role in our unique customer model, executing the BMS aspiration to deliver the most impactful engagement with Health Care Providers (HCPs) and driving adoption of new and existing medicines for appropriate patients. The TAS engages HCPs with a differentiated Customer Experience (Cx) through deeper scientific dialogue, leveraging new ways of working and CE3. This field-based role builds and maintains strong professional credibility with regional thought leaders (RTLs) and community-based physicians/HCPs, serving as their primary point of contact. The TAS liaises with other BMS functions to deliver an overall higher Customer Experience by meeting HCP needs in a timely and scientific manner, prioritizing the safe and appropriate use of BMS products while focusing on business results and performance objectives. This role is 100% field-based, spending all time with external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Promotion
    • Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
    • Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for use of products in appropriate patients.
    • Engages with and continuously maintains/grows a high level of scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
    • Prepares and implements comprehensive territory and account plans.
    • Proactively uses tools such as CE3 to derive insights and dynamically inform call plans; provides feedback on tool usage to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
    • Demonstrates scientific expertise and passion using approved resources and publications to present medically accurate information to HCPs.
    • Conducts in-office presentations (e.g., lunch and learns) and discusses product-related scientific information consistent with label.
    • Organizes external speaker programs, selecting speakers from the approved Speakers Bureau and facilitating scheduling and logistics.
    • Maintains a high level of working expertise on emerging data for approved indications.
    • Engages real-time medical support through Medical on Call to answer unsolicited questions and complex technical inquiries.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Proactively collaborates with other field teams to ensure the best Customer Experience (Cx) for HCPs.
    • Gathers and shares relevant insights and information internally with appropriate stakeholders to enable BMS to better serve its customers.
    • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies governing BMS conduct.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree and/or preferred 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience in healthcare sales, MSL, HCP, or nursing roles.
  • Ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly to help physicians best serve their patients.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong credibility with key customers, office staff, and others in the customer influence network via a customer-centric mindset.
  • Experience in Neurology preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong account management skills, superior selling competencies, and a proven sales performance track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with a positive team mindset and can-do attitude.
  • Strong selling and promotional skills proven through a track record of performance.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing and ability to meet Bristol Myers Squibb’s “Qualified Driver” requirements, including being at least 21 years of age and having a driving risk level deemed acceptable by the Company.

Pay

Field - United States: $139,230 - $168,714 (starting compensation range for full-time employees). Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility. The starting pay rate accounts for required skills, job location, work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final individual compensation will be based on demonstrated experience.

Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for U.S. office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. It is generally not available for field sales, manufacturing operations, or capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible depending on the nature of their work and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement may have different eligibility.

Schedule

This is a field-based role. The Therapeutic Area Specialist is anticipated to spend 100% of their time in the field with external customers.

Locations: Mobile, AL; Auburn, AL; Pensacola, FL.
