About the role
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized and passionate individual to join our Testing Team as the Senior Test Engineer at our Dayton, Ohio location. This role will be responsible for the execution of equipment and system level testing at 3rd party test houses in the mid-west region to support Joby objectives.
Responsibilities
- Execute internal and external test campaigns for assigned systems, sub-systems, and components by following Joby processes and/or procedures.
- Lead discussions with Integrated Product Team (IPT), Design For Reliability (DFR), or other stakeholders to understand testing needs, milestones, and deliverables; manage associated activities using Joby test processes.
- Create test stand and test equipment requirements to support product and reliability testing; work with internal and external test sites to ensure test capabilities meet Joby testing requirements.
- Commission functional test setups and reliability test stands to exercise equipment and/or system functions during DO-160, reliability, durability, or similar testing.
- Collaborate with the Test Equipment Design team to provide test engineering support, fabrication support, or requirements clarification for internally developed test assets.
- Work with external vendors to specify, procure, install, and commission test equipment onsite; manage vendor technical coordination to ensure equipment meets Joby test requirements.
- Facilitate on-site visits for Joby personnel (SMEs, Test Engineers, DERs as applicable) to support test efforts.
Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline with 8+ years of work experience in a relevant industry performing testing-related activities.
- Willing to travel regularly in-state or out-of-state (>25% to test site locations within the United States).
- Hands-on experience with performance verification, environmental qualification, and reliability testing of airborne electronic hardware or similar products.
- Experience testing hardware to DO-160, MIL-STD-810, reliability, durability, life-cycle, or similar environmental and reliability standards.
- Practical experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, NI DAQ systems, power analyzers, and power supplies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong analytical background.
- Very strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Expertise in using Python, MATLAB, or NI Diadem for data collection and analysis.
- High attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Experience with LabView for Data Acquisition and potentially automation (invoking desired equipment functions at different conditions).
- Experience with failure analysis techniques (non-destructive) and processes (FRACAS, etc.).
Pay
The target base pay for this position is $107,000 - $148,000/yr. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
