Senior Technician (Per Diem)
Job Summary
The Senior Technician is a part-time on-call position responsible for the set-up, operation, and load-out of event-related audio/visual equipment throughout the Drexel University Main Campus. This position is a primary Event Services contact with student organizations, academic/administrative departments, and external clients.
About the Role
This position is one of the key staff members responsible for assuring exceptional customer service. It is critical to the success of events coordinated through the Event Services Department. The position is an if/when position, and scheduling will be based on quantity of events and set limits of allotted hours for the position.
Responsibilities
- Train in proper set up, operation, and load out of technical equipment.
- Assure all safety measures are in place involving personnel and equipment.
- Provide feedback to the Associate Director, Event Operations concerning performance of student employees.
- Supervise D.U.S.T. student employee technicians in live production situations, including assigning and delegating responsibilities during events based on individual abilities and event needs.
- Assess student employee performance and assist in training of student staff when directed.
- Aid in determining the best equipment to meet the needs of the event.
- Deliver event-related audio/visual equipment to various locations on campus using authorized university vehicles including all-terrain vehicle and other vehicles as assigned.
- Maintain positive relationships with University faculty, staff, students, and external clients regarding services provided by the D.U.S.T./Event Services Department.
- Assist in the equipment control function, conducting routine tours of the university buildings and grounds noting and returning D.U.S.T. equipment to proper storerooms.
- Straighten and organize storerooms and routinely inspect condition of audio/visual equipment; reporting equipment in need of repair to proper personnel.
- Suggest new or replacement equipment thereby assisting in the efficiency of the department.
- Work one mandatory week of scheduling each September for the university’s “Welcome Week” event series welcoming incoming freshmen to the campus (date confirmed earlier in the summer).
- Play a key role in event production during key university events, including Enrollment Open House and Admitted Students Weekends.
- Duties as assigned by the Associate Director, Event Operations.
Requirements
- Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of combined experience using wide range of audio/visual equipment including house and portable lighting systems, various types of presentation equipment, laptop computers (PC-based and Mac-based), portable and fixed projection screens, and various types of analog and digital sound equipment.
- Experience handling technical requirements for small to medium-sized events with limited supervision.
- Strong commitment to providing exceptional guest service and meeting customer needs.
- Ability to safely secure equipment for transportation.
- Comfortable delegating tasks to subordinates and managing small to medium size production events.
- Strong organization, coordination, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and schedule assignments.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, investigate and analyze information and to draw appropriate conclusions.
- Ability to work independently of others and under limited supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings (5:00 - 6:00 am) or late nights (Midnight – 1:00 am) as needed.
- Valid United States Driver’s License.

The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
Schedule
The position is a part-time per diem position classified as Non-Exempt. Occasional early mornings (5:00 - 6:00 am) or late nights (Midnight – 1:00 am) may be required.
