Senior Technician - Milwaukee, WI

About the Role

The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in the modernization and repair of cranes. This position performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades, as well as solving complex problems when cranes malfunction. The role requires self-sufficiency, leadership abilities, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and serve as a liaison between HCSG management and customers. The position operates in a safety-first environment and requires on-call availability, including after-hours and weekend services to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

• Be on-call and provide after-hour services as required.
• Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
• Train and mentor field technicians.
• Perform OSHA-required hoist and crane inspections and generate inspection reports and repair orders.
• Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete work daily.
• Consult with customers regarding repair and safety-related issues and provide recommendations to improve their services.
• Maintain all company-issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe and proper working order.
• Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; report any deficiencies to a supervisor.
• Maintain a supply of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Attend company-provided trainings and seminars as required.
• Participate in the HCSG 5 Marks program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• At least 5-7 years of crane repair experience or 3-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair and maintenance.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check (DISA) and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must commit to working and driving safely.
• Must be willing to work at heights.
• Must have basic computer skills to work with web-based crane inspection programs.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of hand tools and/or possession of personal hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical training certificate.

Physical Demands

The work is labor-intensive. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions. The position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, prolonged standing and sitting, as well as occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling. It involves excellent hand-eye coordination and working at heights exceeding 50 feet daily. Travel is required (20-50%), including on-call and overtime, with potential out-of-town travel at the company’s discretion.

Work Environment

Work is performed inside or outside, depending on customer requirements, with exposure to varying degrees of extreme hot and cold temperatures. During summer months, temperatures can exceed 120 degrees. The position frequently involves exposure to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.

Pay

$5,000 sign-on bonus.

Schedule

• Full-time.
• Day shift.
• On-call and after-hours availability, including weekends, as required.
• Up to 25% travel, including potential out-of-town assignments.
