About the role
Shutterfly is looking for a Technical Trainer to join their team. The Technical Trainer plays a critical role in developing the technical capabilities of manufacturing operators and technicians and supporting operational excellence within a high-volume print manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for delivering, facilitating, tracking, and continuously improving technical training programs focused on printing equipment, automation systems, maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and operational reliability.
This position can sit at the following Shutterfly locations: Tempe, AZ; Plano, TX; Fort Mill, SC.
Responsibilities
- Develop, deliver, and maintain technical training programs for manufacturing operators and technicians.
- Work directly on print production equipment to demonstrate repair, troubleshooting, adjustment, calibration, and preventive maintenance techniques.
- Evaluate operator and technician competencies through observation and practical demonstrations.
- Maintain expertise in printing technologies and technical best practices.
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate vendor-led technical training programs.
- Convert vendor documentation and technical content into site-specific training materials, work instructions, and certification programs.
- Improve training tools, materials, and processes based on feedback and operational needs.
- Support audits and compliance reviews related to technical qualifications and training records.
Requirements
- 4-year degree in Graphic Communications/Printing Technology/Graphic Arts or 8 years of experience in digital publishing and/or commercial printing with HP Indigo digital presses, DFE’s, hardware and software systems.
- Previous experience developing or delivering technical training programs preferred.
- Experience supporting digital print manufacturing operations preferred.
- Experience working directly with OEM equipment manufacturers and vendors.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automated systems.
Working Conditions
- Primarily on-site in a manufacturing and print production environment.
- Must have the ability to travel to support other Shutterfly lab locations, trade shows, or vendor/partner locations as needed: up to 30%.
- Routinely works on and around active production equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting to 50 pounds.
- May be required to support all shifts, weekends, and special projects as business needs dictate.
