Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Engineer
About the role
This Opportunity WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager – Environmental Engineer to join our Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role is ideal for a senior professional with deep consulting experience who can own client relationships, lead complex projects, and drive business growth in the local market.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic leader and technical authority for environmental engineering services within the SIR practice
- Develop and grow client relationships in the Charlotte market, identifying and capturing new business opportunities
- Lead and manage complex site investigation and remediation projects, ensuring performance on scope, schedule, and budget
- Provide senior-level technical oversight for remedial design, implementation, and optimization
- Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and growth
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated, future-ready solutions
- Provide strategic guidance to clients on regulatory strategy, site closure pathways, and risk management
- Ensure compliance with NCDEQ, SCDES, and USEPA Region 4 regulatory frameworks
- Support operational performance by contributing to sales, revenue, and delivery targets
- Uphold WSP’s standards for safety, ethics, and quality
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including project delivery and business development
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (North Carolina preferred or ability to obtain)
- Demonstrated success leading client relationships and generating revenue in the local/regional market
- Extensive experience with soil and groundwater investigation and remediation, including contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, and/or PFAS
- Strong background in remedial design, construction oversight, and O&M programs
- Experience with vapor intrusion and soil gas investigations
- Prominent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-directed, motivated professional with a track record of ownership and accountability
- Familiarity with Southeast regulatory frameworks, including NCDEQ and USEPA Region 4
- Commitment to health and safety practices (OSHA/HAZWOPER)
- Ability to travel regionally as needed
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field (preferred)
- Experience with design-build or innovative remediation technologies
- Established network of local clients and industry contacts
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (current or ability to obtain)
- First Aid/CPR certification (preferred)
