About the role

The HVAC&R Technician provides equipment troubleshooting and maintenance support for ongoing facility/manufacturing operations and supports growth initiatives at the site. They assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance (PMs) plans, document activities, and manage SAP transactions and change control activities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, including HVAC&R systems, utility equipment, and automated systems.
  • Support vaccine process equipment operations and take corrective actions for Plant Engineering maintenance issues.
  • Ensure quality of products and services through continuous improvement and adherence to GMP standards.
  • Support the Manufacturing Division's mission by maintaining high-quality operations and meeting schedules.
  • Collaborate with various teams, including Operations, Quality, Automation, and Technology, to address maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, install, test, adjust, and repair complex automated process equipment.
  • Develop SOPs, ECRs, PM plans, calibration procedures, and task lists as needed.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, order, and maintain them in the MRO system.
  • Interface with other departments, contractors, and disciplines for scheduling repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with calibration, validation, and testing tasks as required.
  • Support the area by documenting individual and team activities.
  • Work within a team to perform maintenance and troubleshooting activities, resolve deviations, and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers to improve service.
  • Facilitate contractors by obtaining bids, reviewing contracts, supervising work, and auditing time and material reports.
  • Oversee and maintain schedule adherence and unplanned calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform necessary repairs to ensure compliance with safety, GMP, and calibration/maintenance procedures.
  • Comply with current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Use Hazardous Energy Control Procedures for efficient and safe maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently between shifts.
  • Show mechanical aptitude and proficiency in reading P&ID's, electrical drawings, blueprints, etc.
  • Use general hand and power tools, instruments, and testing apparatus commonly used in maintenance and instrumentation.
  • Manage multiple priorities and tasks in parallel and complete them successfully.
  • Work effectively with peers and display strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Obtain EPA 608 certification or equivalent within 30 days of employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience with knowledge of technical craft skills (instrumentation, electrical, plumbing, advanced mechanical, HVAC, and/or multi-stage refrigeration systems).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office, proficiency in the use and knowledge of PCs, and experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s, Siemens Apogee BAS.
  • Experience working in a clean room or GMP/regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with GMP compliant calibration and/or maintenance database systems.
  • Knowledge of SAP and Allen Bradley PLC’s, Siemens Apogee BAS.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial HVAC and building automation systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems which includes DX systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and absorption systems.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry such as FDA.
  • Strong knowledge of steam, compressed air, refrigeration, and water systems.
  • Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS is preferred.
  • Flexible to perform all functions and other tasks as needed by site management.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Industrial Refrigeration Systems, alternatively Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, or Instrumentation.
  • Valid EPA 608 Certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment or the ability to obtain prior to 1st day of employment.
