About the role
Our client, an AI-driven financial services company, is seeking a Senior Tax Planner with deep expertise in individual taxation—ideally with experience serving HNW clients. The ideal candidate holds a CPA, MST, or EA and enjoys applying advanced tax strategy in a modern, tech-forward environment. This position involves forward-looking planning, oversight of complex filings, and close collaboration with financial planners to guide clients through sophisticated financial decisions.
Responsibilities
- Complete and file income tax returns for individuals (Federal and State) and conduct tax research.
- Prepare forward-looking tax projections to help clients anticipate future obligations, model alternative scenarios, and flag withholding issues before they become problems.
- Guide clients on estimated payments, safe-harbor requirements, and year-round planning opportunities.
- Design individualized tax strategies across retirement planning, charitable giving, education funding, equity compensation, AMT exposure, real-estate investments, multistate issues, international considerations, and estate-related topics.
- Work closely with financial planning team to ensure recommendations align with broader household goals.
- Lead the review of personal tax filings, validating accuracy, identifying compliance risks, preparing documentation, and submitting returns.
- Assemble responses and support clients through the process.
- Improve workflows with external preparers will be part of your remit as well.
Requirements
- CPA, MST, EA, or equivalent advanced tax expertise.
- 7+ years focused on individual tax planning and tax return review.
- HNW or UHNW individuals highly preferred.
- Strong command of federal, state, local, and estate-related tax rules, including exposure to passive activities and complex investment situations.
- Comfort using planning software and willingness to adapt to new tools.
- Ability to clearly explain nuanced concepts to people without tax backgrounds.
- Accuracy, organization, and a collaborative working style.
