About the role
DZYNE is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to work in our Expendables Division out of Irvine, CA. Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering as outlined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).
- Prepare System Safety Engineering analysis and generate documents in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and MIL-STD-2105 including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, non-nuclear Munitions, and Software System Safety Analyses.
- Identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues.
- Develop, review, update, and approve System Safety Artifacts and System Safety Requirements in coordination with Military Services’ system safety review boards.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant experience (Advanced degrees may substitute for years of relevant professional experience).
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, function/system/subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses, and safety assessment reports.
- Demonstrated ability to apply MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-2105.
- Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards.
- Ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements.
- Understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) may substitute for years of relevant professional experience).
- Secret clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance, as required for the role.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for current or future employment visa sponsorship.
- This position requires access to information and technology subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Employment is contingent upon meeting applicable export control eligibility requirements and compliance obligations.
- Travel required: Less than 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering specifically within US Navy applications and all associated deliverables and Safety Review Boards (e.g., FISTRP, WSESRB, HERO, Battery Safety Review).
Working Conditions
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment, to warehouse and other facilities.
Physical Demands
- Must have the ability to stop, stand, climb, and occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work.
Pay
Salary: $131,000 – $195,000 annually. Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus.
