About the role
The System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department at RTX ensures that our products meet safety and human factors standards throughout their lifecycle. This role is based in Woburn, MA.
Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
- Performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer's approved equivalent
- Collaborating with customer safety representatives to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated to the system and horizontally integrated across development teams
- Coordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
- Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
- Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal
- Performing System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses
- Briefing safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
Qualifications
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
- Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those in MIL-STD 882E
- Experience writing technical reports and presentations
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance
- Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400)
- Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178
- Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations
- Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines
- Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering
- Experience managing Working Groups
- Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance
